About Yasthimadhu Tablet
Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra), a perennial blooming plant native to central and southwest Asia as well as the Mediterranean region, is the subject of the Yashtimadhu Tablet. It is extensively farmed for its four-foot-deep, delicious taproot. Yasthimadhu is also known as “sweet root” because of its sweet flavor. In Sanskrit it is called yashtimadhu – ‘yashti’ meaning ‘stem, stalk; and madhu, meaning ‘sweet’. In Hindi liquorice is known as ‘mulethi’. The perennial root is rounded, long and straight, hard, and fibrous. It is grayish outside and yellowish within. The cortex contains its most attractive qualities. It is abundantly grown in Punjab and the sub-Himalayan plains of India.
Ingredient of Yasthimadhu Tablet
- Yashtimadhu Phanta – a water infusion of licorice is used in the Vamana Panchakarma procedure.
- Ghee prepared with licorice – yashtimadhu Ghrita is used extensively in treating peptic ulcers and gastritis.
- Yashtimadhu oil is applied to the hair and used in nasya treatment (nasal instillation) to stop hair loss, greying, and balding.
Indications of Yasthimadhu Tablet
Yasthimadhu was formerly used as a medication rather than a spice. The root of the plant is the primary component utilised in medicine. This root is appreciated mostly for its sweet taste and ability to cover over the harshness, pungency, and taste of other medicines. It is a demulcent and mild relaxant that soothes mucosal irritations. The root is suggested by Ayurveda as an effective remedy for coughs, colds, and other bronchial irritations.
Helps Treat Skin Problems
Yasthimadhu is used in the treatment of psoriasis, eczema, skin rashes, and dry, itchy skin. According to studies, Yasthimadhu has demulcent and anti-inflammatory compounds that may lessen the symptoms of atopic dermatitis (eczema). Skin issues can be resolved by simply dabbing a concentrated root extract from Yasthimadhu onto the affected region 2 to 3 times each day. Sunscreens frequently use extracts of the yasthimadhu root as a natural ingredient.
Helps Treat Respiratory Problems
The herb yasthimadhu is used to treat upper respiratory tract illnesses. Yasthimadhu is an effective expectorant according to Ayurveda, helping to liquefy mucus and promote its expulsion from the body. People with asthma or chest colds who have a tight cough or difficulty breathing benefit from Yasthimadhu’s expectorant properties. For respiratory infections, yasthimadhu with glycyrrhizin may be administered. It can also be mixed with fresh ginger for respiratory conditions and colds.
Relieves Ulcers
Due to the flavonoids in deglycyrrhizinated yasthimadhu (DGL), which are unaffected by the removal of glycyrrhizin, it is effective in curing digestive tract ulcers. Helicobacter pylori, the bacterium responsible for the majority of stomach ulcers and inflammations, has been found to be killed by flavonoids.
Helps in Weight Loss
Similar to other phytoestrogens, Yasthimadhu demonstrates modest estrogenic effects. It can encourage the synthesis of estrogen and counteract the negative effects of excess estrogen, especially when it comes from outside sources. Yasthimadhu root’s phytoestrogenic properties are beneficial for hormonal issues in menopausal women, such as hot flashes, tiredness, and mood swings.
